New Visitor Center
The necessity for a new visitor center at Badlands National Park is undeniable, driven by the park’s everincreasing popularity and the limitations of the current facility.
Over the past decade, visitation to the park has surged dramatically, creating significant challenges for the existing visitor center. Despite its years of faithful service, since 1959, the current facility simply cannot accommodate the growing number of visitors while providing the exceptional park experience they deserve.
One of the primary shortcomings of the current visitor center is its inadequate space to effectively educate visitors on the significance of the Badlands’ cultural and natural resources. As interest in dark sky viewing opportunities, paleontology uniqueness, and tribal cooperation continues to grow, the current facility falls short in providing the necessary educational experiences to visitors.
Recognizing these pressing needs, Badlands National Park has identified the construction of a new visitor center as a top priority. With expanded space and modern amenities, the new center will offer enhanced opportunities for education, interpretation, and engagement, ensuring that visitors leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the park’s rich heritage and natural wonders.
Fortunately, significant progress has already been made towards realizing this vital project. $11,000,000 of the $16,000,000 goal has been secured for the construction of the much-needed visitor center. This substantial funding commitment underscores the urgency and importance of this endeavor, highlighting the shared dedication to providing visitors with a truly exceptional experience at Badlands National Park.
